About the Book

The Aboriginal Soccer Tribe is a celebration of the extraordinary journey taken by Aboriginal sportsmen and sportswomen to forge the way ahead for the present crop of talented players. Maynard explores the acceptance Aboriginal players found within the post-World War II migrant communities, and how the multicultural world of soccer provided them with a haven from prejudice. National Indigenous leaders such as Charlie Perkins and John Moriarty reveal the profound impact this had on their lives.
